Catherine Lanigan’s The Adventures of Lilli and Zane: Eagle's Gold is a fantastic middle-grade story full of daring discoveries, clever problem-solving, and nonstop excitement that keeps readers eager for every new development. I read this over a handful of evenings at bedtime with my youngest little reader, and we had loads of fun following Lilli, Zane, and Teddy as they explored abandoned Western towns, uncovered hidden treasures, and outwitted determined adversaries, all while using creativity, teamwork, and their unique abilities. From secret maps and ancient relics to time-bending abilities and mysterious portals, Lanigan does well in portraying each move and cinematic setting with remarkable detail, the standouts being the saloon, the forest, and one of our favorite places: Santa Barbara. Overall, this is a fabulous story full of adventure, and we are excited to see where Lanigan takes us next! Very highly recommended.

The book is part of The Adventures of Lilli and Zane series and features subplots concerning Lilli’s mother's disappearance and her father's job, which add suspense throughout the series. The narrative is also infused with humor through witty dialogues and humorous situations, while touching on the ancient mysteries and traditions of Native American tribes. I really enjoyed this book and loved the main characters due to their uniquely relatable personalities. I look forward to exploring more works by Catherine Lanigan and continuing this series, as it is informative, engaging, and offers a delightful mix of historical, adventure, and supernatural elements.

Using these hints, Lilli and her friends make excuses to go to an ancient town called Buckshot. When they arrive in town, it is spooky, filled with weathered buildings and a suspicious woman. Lilli, Zane, and Teddy continue with their treasure hunt, which leads them to a haunted saloon. When they are almost about to give up, Teddy gets a clue from a Mexican bandito ghost, but their happiness is short-lived. What they discover is not the treasure they had anticipated. They also find themselves in danger from a woman who believes the treasure belongs to her. How will things turn out as Lilli and her friends learn about Native Americans and Spanish friars? The Adventures of Lilli and Zane: Eagle's Gold by Catherine Lanigan is wonderfully written and takes readers on a gripping journey filled with unexpected directions and moral dilemmas. The plot flows flawlessly, leaving no room for confusion. This thought-provoking work got me thinking about the history of Native Americans and the arrival of Europeans in the New World. The characters were well-developed, and I loved how the author utilized suspense effectively, making me look forward to the events of subsequent chapters. The steady pacing also kept me intrigued. Readers will appreciate the easy-to-understand language, which makes the work accessible to all readers. This is an excellent book, and I look forward to reading more by this talented author.
