CATHERINE LANIGAN

Catherine Lanigan is the international bestselling and award-winning author of over forty-five published titles in both fiction and non-fiction, including the novelizations of Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile, as well as over half a dozen anthologies, including “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Living your Dream”, “Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul”, and more.  Her novels have continuously received 4 & 5 star reviews.  Ms. Lanigan’s novels have been translated into more than twenty-four languages.   Several of her titles have been chosen for The Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Clubs.  Her Vietnam war-based  novel, The Christmas Star,  won the Gold Medal Award Top Pick from Romantic Times Magazine  and has also won Book of the Year Romance Gold Award from ForeWord Magazine as well as Book of the Year Romance from Reader’s Preference.

In the latter half, bestselling author Catherine Lanigan shared stories of miraculous occurrences in her life and others and how these events can positively shape our belief systems. She has interviewed hundreds of people over the past 20+ years and chronicled their near-death experiences, visions, and face-to-face meetings with angels.  One account she shared involved her 10-year-old son Ryan, who was hit by a Ford Bronco when riding his bicycle in their neighborhood. The bike was completely mangled under the large vehicle, but Ryan was totally uninjured- not even scratched, even though the driver said she'd collided into him. "Mom, something picked me up and just put me over here on the curb," he told her. Lanigan has concluded that having a positive attitude and staying in the present (not doting on the past or future) can make it more likely for miracles to occur in a person's life. Concentrating on "just this moment, just this feeling of this breath" allows for the divine to come into your consciousness, and be "raised to a level where you can even get even more messages or you can go to another dimension," she said. Lanigan described manifestation as truly being able to envision something. Her mother always said, 'I don't just believe in miracles; I expect them.' And not only did she expect them, but she lived as if they had already happened, Lanigan explained, adding that that was a key for bringing in the miraculous.

This book is an enticingly fun read that will make readers experience different emotions. One of the significant aspects of the book that keeps readers engaged is the author’s ability to transition smoothly between various settings. Catherine Lanigan cleverly connects Angela’s world with Owen and Gregory’s life through a portal in heaven or “the Other Side.” The chapters are intricately organized. Subheadings give information about where everything is taking place. The revival of Owen and his father’s dormant relationship, following Angela’s angelic intervention in their lives, symbolizes the power of faith in a person’s life. The narrative is more character-driven, giving importance to the thoughts, intentions, and personal growth of the characters rather than the plot. At certain points, Lanigan depicts the characters' thoughts in italics. This change of fonts to distinguish the characters' thoughts from dialogues and her eloquent portrayal of unfiltered human emotions are tools in her impeccable writing style. Overall, Magical Midnight comes across as a light-hearted read, touching upon mindful themes of love and faith. This book is highly recommended if you love reading fantasy stories that take you on a rollercoaster of emotions.
